Our season began with a lot of uncertainty behind it. We all knew that this was supposed to be our year, and we were supposed to be incredibly successful in our season. But as we all know, you never truly know what is going to happen until you actually do it. There are many things that could go wrong with a soccer team. There could be injuries, the team could not get along or not play well together, the coach could choose a bad formation, or put people in the wrong positions making a bad lineup, or a number of other things. So it was impossible to tell until we had gotten through part of the season exactly how successful we would be.
None of those above possibilities came true. Everything has gone great and we are living up to expectations so far. We currently stand with an undefeated record with 10 wins and 0 losses. Along with this we are currently ranked 13th in the state in Class B which is pretty impressive if you ask me. The notable wins so far this season have been 1-0 against Marathon, 5-0 against Watkins Glen, 4-1 against Lansing, and 5-1 against Dryden. All of these teams are quality teams but we managed to take all of them down. It is really going superbly.
Along with the great results though is how much we have bonded as a team. Our wonderful freshman Abraham summed it up nicely in practice when he said. "I don't think we are a team anymore, I think we are a family." While this sounds pretty corny and cliche it is also a good way to put it. Our team is closer then any team I have ever been on. We have so much fun in practice while also still managing to put in hard work and improve every day. It is the actions off the field that really shows it off. We are always together in school and hanging out and having fun but also outside of school we get together a ton just for fun by our own choice. All our get together focus around RUST, and we love it. Our team is truly as much of a family as a sports tea, can become.
So as much as reading about us may let you get a feel for us a little bit. You should just come check us out. You probably already see us around the school, but now come see us on the field. Check the Trumansburg School website for a schedule or just ask one of us soccer players about when we play and come watch us show our stuff against whoever we may be playing. You won't regret it.
Just one of the guys,
Charles Woodward
